EPFO is one of the World's largest Social Security Organisations. The
Employees' Provident Fund came into existence with the promulgation of
the Employees' Provident Funds Ordinance on the 15th November, 1951. It was replaced by the Employees'
Provident Funds Act, 1952. The Employees' Provident Funds Bill was
introduced in the Parliament as Bill Number 15 of the year 1952 as a Bill to
provide for the institution of provident funds for employees in factories and
other establishments. The Act is now referred as the Employees' Provident Funds & Miscellaneous Provisions Act,
1952 which extends to the whole of India.
The Act and Schemes framed there under are administered by a tri-partite Board
known as the Central Board of Trustees, Employees' Provident Fund,consisting of
representatives of Government (Both Central and State), Employers, and
Employees.
The Central Board of Trustees administers a contributory provident fund, pension scheme and an insurance scheme for the workforce engaged in the organized sector in India. The Board is assisted by the Employees’ PF Organization (EPFO), consisting of offices at 138 locations across the country. The Organization has a well equipped training set up where officers and employees of the Organization as well as Representatives of the Employers and Employees attend sessions for trainings and seminars.The EPFO is under the administrative control of Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.
The Board operates three schemes - EPF Scheme 1952, Pension Scheme 1995 (EPS) and Insurance Scheme 1976 (EDLI).
The Employees Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1952:
An Act to provide for the institution of provident funds, Pension fund and deposit-linked insurance fund for employees in factories and other establishments.
The EPF Act is applicable to every factory and establishment which employees are 20 or more persons.
EPF Registration
Steps for Employer:
Step 1. To register the organisation, the employer will need to
visit the Shram Suvidha Partal https://registration.shramsuvidha.gov.in/.
Step 2. Select Registration Under EPF-ESI and create your Shram
Suvidha Account.
Step 3. Login to Shram
Suvidha Account and apply for new Registration. This
leads you to a page where the details of the employer such as Establishment
Details, eContacts, Contact Persons, Identifiers, Employment Details,
Particulars of workers, Branch/Division, Activities, and Attachments are
mentioned. All mandatory details that must be filled under each section are
displayed with a red asterisk. The summary of the registration form can be
viewed on the dashboard. Click on the ‘Submit’ button to submit the
registration.
Step 4: Attached the Required Documents and submit the application by using Digital Signature or ESign (Using Aadhar Number)

UAN Generation & PF Registration for Employees:
Employers need to
register all their employees on the EPFO portal. EPFO Provide 12-digit UAN and
PF No to every employee. Every time an employee changes their job,
Employee gets New PF No in new company that is linked to the UAN.
Employees should share his UAN with new employer on joining. If an individual is employed for the first time, the employer will have to get UAN generated for him.
